Despite the three-game losing streak at the end of the eliminations round and a wildcard finish, I still see optimism that the San Miguel Beermen can reach at least the quarterfinals round. But before that, they need to escape first the gruelling match in the wildcard round starting with the fierce Coca-Cola Tigers today.

I don’t know what was running in the San Miguel Beermen coaching staffs’ mind when they refused to change their defensive strategy in the third quarter when the Barangay Ginebra Kings kept on sinking three point shots lead by Jayjay Helterbrand. In my opinion, that was the pivotal point of the game as the San Miguel Beermen were slaughtered by the Barangay Ginebra Kings, 82-87 to close out their elimination round game.

Until the final buzzer sounds, the game is NOT yet over. The San Miguel Beermen learned that lesson the hard way when they failed to contain Gabe Norwood in the paint as he tipped-in a missed shot by Allan Salangsang enabling the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to escape, 93-92.

The finish line is near and the San Miguel Beermen will try to be one of the two top finishers in the 2008-2009 KFC PBA Philippine Cup as they face the young Rain or Shine Elasto Painters team in the first game today.
I came across a short news article mentioning the injury status of both Danny Seigle and Danny Ildefonso. The injury status updates was given by coach Siot Tanquingcen in an interview by a sports reporter.

The San Miguel Beermen seem to have problems defeating teams that don’t have their main man playing as they were swallowed by Nic Belasco-lead Coca-Cola Tigers, 105-91 who played without starting center Asi Taulava due to a fractured finger.

As the elimination rounds near its end, the San Miguel Beermen will try to solidify its bid for a Magic 5 slot and maybe a shot at one of the two semifinals ticket when they battle it out today with the wounded Coca-Cola Tigers squad.

With its chances of grabbing a spot in the semifinals in peril, the San Miguel Beermen made sure that it remains in contention for one of the coveted spots as they dealt the Red Bull Barakos their franchise-worst eight straight losses, 89-84.

The San Miguel Beermen’s second spot at the team standings is now in danger of being grabbed or shared with other teams as they lost to an overseas game against the Talk N Text Tropang Texters in Singapore, 85-80.
