It’s simply amazing how Danny Seigle performed in the late part of the Philippine Cup despite the injuries that he was experiencing. He performed really well helping the San Miguel Beermen reached the semifinals and almost beating the heavily loaded Talk N Text Tropang Texters.

Now to prepare himself for future battles and remove him of the pains that he has been experiencing with his back, Seigle decided to undergo surgery operation 6 days after being eliminated in the semis. The recovery was estimated to last up to 3 months and if this does not happen, he will be probably out the rest of the season.

With the lost of its key players to injuries, I am not expecting big things from the Beermen this conference. A trip to the quarterfinals would be a modest goal. Semifinals will already be a big blessing. But don’t despair Beermen fans. Just keep supporting the team. Who knows, we might see other players step up and play big. This is their time to shine.

SMB’s Seigle goes under the knife, sits out 3 months
Wednesday, February 25, 2009

There seems to be no end to the San Miguel Beermen’s woes.

Danny Seigle added to the team’s casualty on the bench after the high-flying forward underwent a herniated disc operation recently.

At the most, the Fil-Am stalwart from Wagner College will be out for three months. But if worst comes to worst, Seigle may be out for the rest of the season.

Seigle has been bothered by an assortment of injuries in his 10-year pro career, all with the Beermen.

During the recent Philippine Cup, he was sidelined for half of San Miguel’s 30 games.

But he did return to the active roster during the playoffs, and finished third in scoring among the Beermen with an average of 13.4 points. He also normed 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

He went under the knife a few days after the team was eliminated in six games of its semifinals series against eventual champion Talk `N Text.

“But even without him, even with the injuries, we don’t lower our expectations as a team. Our team doesn’t rely on just one or two guys,” Tanquingcen said.

Other than the 32-year-old Seigle, also in San Miguel’s injury list are Mike Cortez (ACL), Lordy Tugade (knee) and two-time league Most Valuable Player Danny Ildefonso (feet).

Operated on both knees, Tugade will be out for the next eight weeks, Cortez for another three months while Ildefonso won’t be returning to play until middle of the import-laden tournament.
