In one of the televised games of the San Miguel Beermen, TV anchor Ed Picson mentioned that he saw Dondon Hontiveros an hour earlier before the game in the venue. And why is he so early? He was there to sharpen his shooting skills.

Way back last season, Dondon was not in his usual deadly self. He had become inconsistent in scoring though his defense was still there. Probably threatened by the entry of Bonbon Custodio and deadly Lordy Tugade in his spot, his motivation was to keep himself needed by the team. He probably don’t want to be traded if the team decides to ship some of its non-performing players. As some of you know, San Miguel is just some of the few teams who handle its players with great care.

And the only way he can do that is to improve his game most specially his shooting. After four games, his efforts started to pay dividends as he leads the Beermen in point production with 13.50 points per game. He is also second with most playing minutes among the Beermen with 27 minutes a ballgame – a testament to coach Siot Tanquincen’s trust to him that he can deliver.

This work ethic of Dondon Hontiveros simply proves his dedication to the game and to his team. As with any other endeavors, preparation and practice are very important things that could spell your success or failure. For sure, Dondon knows this and he is doing what’s needed to salvage a slowly sagging career.

His performance is no secret among the opposing teams. Therefore, he should continuously improve his game aside from his shooting for him to be able to continue his excellent performance.
