Gabe Freeman To Lead San Miguel Beermen Against League-Leading Burger King Titans

San Miguel Beermen will sport another reinforcement through an explosive import in Gabe Freeman against the league-leading Burger King Titans.
It’s interesting to note that Gabe Freeman played against Burger King Titans import Shawn Daniels in the CBA Finals. Freeman played under the Albany Patrons alongside Ginebra import Rod Nealy and Coke import JJ Sullinger. Shawn Daniel’s team Lawton-Fort Sill won the championship though.
Take a look at the following stats board where you will see some of our current crops of import stats are including Gabe Freeman:

With those stats, expectations are high from him. However, please note that he just arrived yesterday. If he doesn’t play well tonight, give him more time to jell with the team and his needed rest from jetlag. But hopefully he can show up big tonight in a rematch against Shawn Daniels. Imports normally cancels out each other, therefore, its the locals that really makes the difference.
San Miguel will try to grab the lead from Burger King and a share with idle Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants after the Beermen demolished the Alaska Aces on its debut game even without import Nate Carter.

Burger King Titans Stakes Early Fiesta Cup Lead vs Powerhouse SMB
Sunday, March 08, 2009Hardly enjoying the view from the top, Burger King right away stakes its solo lead in the Motolite-PBA Fiesta Cup with no less than the San Miguel Beermen waiting for the Titans at the other end of the fence.
The Titans have already made a big statement that they are a team not to be treated lightly, already pulling through with victories over Sta. Lucia Realty (96-87) and then outlasting defending champion Ginebra (110-106).
The Titans go for win No.3 Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum against a Beermen team set to parade new import Gabe Freeman.
Even without Carter, San Miguel won its debut game against Alaska, 93-89, and having a new reinforcement could either work or mean disaster for the Beermen.
This is the first time that Freeman will be playing on Philippine soil, and he will go up against one of the best all-around imports in the league right now in Shawn Daniels.
Daniels scored points, pulled down 10 rebounds and had eight assists in the Titans’ win over the Gin Kings Friday, their second straight in as many games that allowed them to vault on top of the season-ending tournament.
The Burger King import also had good local support led by Arwind Santos, who scattered a team-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds in their win over the defending champions.
Meanwhile, Alaska clashes with another winless team in Barako Bull in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader.
Alaska didn’t play like the No. 1-seeded team in the previous Philippine Cup when it began its campaign in the season-ending tournament last March 4.
Now, there appears to be no reason for the Aces to suffer a second straight defeat in the hands of a ball club that has so far not tasted a victory after two games and is currently at the bottom of the standings.
An Alaska victory will reward coach Tim Cone with his 602nd PBA win, the most by any coach since the league began in 1975. Currently, Cone is tied with the great Virgilio "Baby" Dalupan with 601 wins.
Cone’s date with history all depends whether import Galen Young delivers a performance that is expected of him. Young looked old in his debut, merely producing 12 points on 25 percent field-goal shooting (3-for-12) and fouling out with nearly five minutes left to play.
"We have some guys that still haven’t recovered from our Finals stint in the Philippine Cup," said Cone. "We will let the last game slide and focus on the next one. I know we can play better and harder."
The worst that could happen to the Aces right now is to drop the game against the Energy Boosters, last conference’s tail-enders who have yet to secure a first win despite promising starts in their games.
