After sustaining a left knee ACL injury during his tenure at the Alaska Aces, Mike Cortez once again injured his knee, this time the right knee on an accidental collision with Macmac Cardona in their game against the Talk N Text Tropang Texters.

Many believe that this injury of Cortez is a career-ending one as it already involved his two knees but there’s still possibility that he can still come back. Remember when Danny Seigle injured his achilles heel? Many also believed that his career is over after that accident. However, Danny Seigle proved to his critics and fans that he can comeback and outperform his best performance before his injury. I do hope Mike Cortez do the same. It just rest on his determination and his will to play.

Reading through some sports news lead me to this portion of an article from Philippine Star (philstar.com).

Meanwhile, San Miguel Beer has lost another major player in Mike Cortez who suffered an ACL tear on his right knee in their last game against Talk n Text Friday.

Cortez will undergo surgery today at St. Luke’s Hospital, the same day the Beermen go up against the Barangay Ginebra Kings.

The former La Salle sentinel, who has assumed the starting point guard chores at San Miguel, will be out for at least six months. He suffered the same injury on the other knee while with Alaska Milk two years ago.

Hearing a snap on his knee, Cortez was helped to their dugout in the third quarter of their 84-77 thrashing of the Tropang Texters. It was San Miguel’s third straight win following a losing season debut against Alaska Milk.

“We’re just four games into the season and we’re also saddled by injuries like Ginebra,” said Tanquingcen.

Danny Ildefonso underwent operation on both ankles in the off-season. Danny Seigle is out with a pinched nerve at the back.

It’s not certain whether Danny Seigle will see action on the game against Barangay Ginebra.

Danny Seigle’s injury may be related to his back spasms injury that he has sustained way back last season. His injury may not be as serious as the ACL injury of Mike Cortez.
