Lordy Tugade Waxes Hot as San Miguel Slams Undermanned Barangay Ginebra

Before the game has started, it was almost certain what the results will be. The only question remained was how many points will be San Miguel’s lead against a badly undermanned Barangay Ginebra Kings.
The ballgame was very relaxing to watch as the San Miguel Beermen practically controlled the tempo all game long not letting the Gin Kings come closer by building a huge lead. The usual ghost named “fourth quarter meltdown” was not around to spoil the party again for the victorious Beermen.
Unlike the previous season, San Miguel has already learned to win despite the absence of its two seasoned veterans in Danny Seigle and Danny Ildefonso who are both injured as of today. With that, I think San Miguel can only get deadly once the two come back in tip top shape.
Lordy Tugade was cited as the Best Player of the Game once again with his 21 big points and deadly 5-of-7 snipping from the three point land.

EASY WIN FOR SAN MIGUEL
7 Beermen score at least 11 in 29-pt blowout
Wednesday, October 22, 2008San Miguel Beer has been playing well and could only get better.
For the Beermen have already been on a hot run even as coach Siot Tanquingcen insists they still have to work on many things.
The Beermen made it four in a row with their most lopsided win thus far in the season — a 118-89 walloping of the badly crippled Barangay Ginebra Kings at the Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night.
Seven Beermen, led by Lordy Tugade with 21, put in double-digit outputs as San Miguel kept their run going and firmed up their hold of second place in the KFC PBA Philippine Cup with a 4-1 win-loss record.
Alaska Milk is in the lead with a clean 4-0 mark.
“We really still have to work on many things. What’s good for the team is that they work with their hearts out to achieve a challenge,” said Tanquingcen. “Two games back, we’re last in rebounding. We made that as our challenge and now we’re already the best rebounding team.”
Rebounding was only one of many aspects of the game where the Beermen beat the Kings soundly.
San Miguel pummeled Ginebra from the start and went on to deal the Kings their worst defeat in three years.
“They’re struggling with a short-handed lineup. I don’t expect the same game when we face them again in the next round,” said Tanquingcen of the Kings missing the services of injured players Mark Caguioa, Billy Mamaril and Rafi Reavis.
Ronald Tubid was also out, serving a game suspension for two flagrant fouls in their last game against Red Bull.
Johnny Abarrientos returned from semi-retirement, putting in eight points and two assists for the Kings.
The Beermen started strong with Tugade, Dorian Pena, Jay Washington, Dondon Hontiveros and Jonas Villanueva, pulling away early at 29-13 with a 50-percent shooting in the first quarter.
They took the half at 49-32 and enjoyed a lead as big as 31 before closing out the rout.
“It’s a good sign the team keeps on improving. There are certain things we don’t want to be contented. The idea is to keep improving each game,” said Tanquingcen.
Tugade hit five triples to lead the Beermen in scoring.
Ken Bono had a career high 16 points while Chris Calaguio contributed 12 points, two rebounds and two rebounds in his return to active duty, subbing for the injured Mike Cortez.
Cortez will be out for the next six months, having suffered an ACL tear. (NC)
