After a hot start leading as much as 19 points, the San Miguel Beermen lose gas in the endgame letting the Alaska Aces escape with a one point lead, 84-85. Willie Miller lead the Alaska Aces charge with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists earning him the Best Player of the Game honors.

It was near the end of the 3rd quarter when SMB collectively turnovered the ball 9 times enabling the aces to crawl back and narrow the SMB’s lead to 4.

The fourth quarter saw the Aces gunners waxing hot in the perimeter including Larry Fonacier, Jeffrey Cariaso, Willie Miller, and Tony Dela Cruz. The Beermen fought back that lead to several lead changes. With time winding down to the last minute, Mike Cortez committed a crucial turnover in his attempt to drive to the basket that could have handed the SMB the lead.

SMB was given a chance to tie or win the ballgame off a two free throw miss my Jeffrey Cariaso but the Beermen were outhustled by the Aces in the rebound play with Willie Miller getting the offensive rebound. The ball never returned to SMB and thus the 1-point loss.
