During the first time that San Miguel Beer flirted with disaster named fourth “quarter meltdown”, they were NOT lucky enough to escape as the Alaska Aces found a way to exploit them in the end game. The result was a humiliating one point loss after the Beermen lead as much as 19 points in one point of the ballgame.

Luckily, they were able to escape after that as they string one win after the other with some of them almost repeating this same mistake and they even got involved in an endgame controversy. Are they getting kind of bored in the endgame when they build a huge lead early in the game?

Today, San Miguel Beer will try to bounce back from that humiliating loss as they face rival Alaska Aces for the right to the solo leadership in the team standings in their 5:00pm encounter at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City. Both teams are sporting an even 7-2 card at the start of the second round of the eliminations.

Eventhough too early to tell, both teams have a solid chance at landing the first two spots for the semis if the trend in the first round of the eliminations continue. Both are currently enjoying a 2-game lead against third placer Sta. Lucia Realtors at 5-4.

One of the main keys in this game is the ability of San Miguel Beer to play tough defense. One of the Aces to tightly guard is Alaska Aces newcomer Joe Devance who have been dishing out fine performances in their previous games. We can expect Marc Pingris to handle the job with some help from Jay Washington.

And of course, there’s the perennial Willie Miller, the Alaska Aces go to guy. Never forget him specially at crunch time.

I expect San Miguel Beer to show a different form for this game as compared to their first meeting. It’s great for them to start strong but only finishing the game strong can give us the WIN!
