Carlorista posted an interesting topic today when he posted in the shoutbox that Talk N Text Tropang Texters point guard Jimmy Alapag was traded and is already one of the San Miguel Beermen.

Excited to verify his claims, I quickly check out his link to see if it is true.

He was referring to an article written by sports journalist Rey Joble of Manila Standard Today (manilastandardtoday.com). Below is a portion of that news story:

Meanwhile, Jimmy Alapag, the most consistent player in the national team that played in last year’s Fiba Asia Men’s Basketball Championship, is reportedly being put on the trading block.

His playing minutes sliced down by the entry of Fil-Am versatile player Jared Dillinger and another talented newcomer in Jason Castro, the 5’9” Alapag may find himself shipped to a new team, according to a highly placed source.

“Wonder why Alapag’s minutes have gone down? It’s because Talk N Text felt he is now dispensable with the entry of Dillinger and Castro,” said the source, who requested anonymity. “That’s why, there are trade negotiations being worked out, but nothing is final yet. Jimmy is just part of the package offered on the table.”

Apparently, it was NOT a news about Jimmy Alapag being traded to San Miguel Beermen but is just a news about Jimmy Alapag “being put on the trading block”. Being traded and being put on the trading block are two different stories.

Nevertheless, I can’t help but be excited of Jimmy Alapag being offered around by the Talk N Text Tropang Texters and you know why. Mike Cortez is definitely out for the rest of the conference and having a Jimmy Alapag to play with Olsen Racela and Jonas Villanueva will certainly boost San Miguel Beermen’s backcourt.

However, I’m also wondering what’s the price of acquiring him. It will definitely come with a big cost. On Talk N Text’s part, coach Chot Reyes have previously expressed interest in Dondon Hontiveros. Will that be a good deal for the San Miguel Beermen? I don’t think so as Dondon is a vital cog in San Miguel’s shooting guard rotation and is performing a great conference as of this point.

Another possible deal is Danny Seigle. Will his departure have an impact on the current roster? Based on how the San Miguel Beermen are winning games these conference indicates that Dynamite Danny Seigle is already dispensable much like Jimmy Alapag. The arrival of Jay Washington, his perfect fit to Siot Tanquincen’s system, and his all-around performance speaks that the San Miguel Beermen can survive without him.

Despite the possibilities, trade talks can certainly fall down if the two teams does not agree on what each one can offer. And on this news, it wasn’t even referring to San Miguel Beer. Certainly, the San Miguel Beermen has also other plans on how to fill the void in the point guard spot left by the injured Mike Cortez. They are also exploring the free agents waters.
